History & Spirituality.

One of the most important Romanesque churches in Europe.

Architecture & Pilgrimage Tradition.

The Dom zu Gurk is one of the outstanding works of the Romanesque style throughout Europe. Built in the 12th century, the three-nave basilica impresses visitors with its huge columns, clean shapes and majestic radiance. From the moment you enter, a special sacred atmosphere permeates the place.

The most famous attraction is the crypt under the main altar, which is one of the most beautiful in the world with its approximately 100 artistically crafted columns. There is also the tomb chapel of St. Hemma, who is the founder of the monastery and the patron saint of Carinthia. The cathedral is still an important pilgrimage site: many people seek spiritual strength and inspiration here.

Its art historical value is also outstanding: its frescoes, altars and sacred treasures tell the story of centuries of ecclesiastical traditions. The Dom zu Gurk is both an architectural marvel, a spiritual center and a historical experience – leaving a lasting memory for every visitor.
